Watch out for this scam.

*****JURY DUTY SCAM ALERT*****
The Essex County Sheriff's Department has received multiple reports of a jury duty scam circulating. Residents have reported receiving a phone call from a number, informing them that they have missed jury duty and they must pay a fine or they will be arrested.
They are giving people our Civil Process Division address of 35 Congress Street in Salem, MA.
This is a SCAM! The Sheriff's Department will NEVER call a citizen to inform them of jury duty or a missed jury duty. Nor would any Law Enforcement Official ask for money or fines for missed jury duty.
If you receive a call like this, do not offer any personal information over the phone, hang up, and report it to (978) 750-1900 Ext. 3590.

Brush Fire Update – Day 14:

The brush fire is now 70% contained with roughly 231 acres burned due to a significant fire that took place last evening adjacent to the transmission power lines on the Middleton/North Reading line (see photo), involving just over 50 acres. Crews were out late last night and early this morning containing this latest fire. Multiple mutual-aid agencies were brought in last night as well as throughout this ordeal to assist in operations.

Crews were back in the woods today patrolling the fire perimeter and extinguishing hot spots and flare ups as needed. The Massachusetts Army National Guard delivered over 50 drops throughout the day. Tomorrow’s mission will be the same (minus the helicopter), including monitoring the fire perimeter and addressing fires as needed. Residents should expect the smoke conditions to continue for the foreseeable future. A reminder to avoid any open flame use due to the ongoing drought conditions. We appreciate the community support throughout this incident.
