Small but mighty, the invasive Clinging jellyfish has returned to the Jersey Shore—and it packs a painful punch. These creatures, which aren't native to New Jersey waters, measure about an inch wide with an almost invisible body and deliver a venomous sting that's no joke.

According to a report by Fox Weather, a child was stung recently and endured four days of extreme pain. This species prefers calm, shallow areas with underwater plants, with peak activity from late spring through summer. Residents are warning beachgoers to stay alert in vegetated shallow waters, noting that this tiny invader is more dangerous than it looks.

If you are stung: Reactions may vary based on individual sensitivity to the toxin. The NJ Department of Environmental Protection advises rinsing the area with saltwater and removing any remaining te****le materials using gloves, a plastic card, or a thick towel. If symptoms persist or pain increases, seek prompt medical attention.
