South Florida’s extreme heat has been putting a heavy strain on home air-conditioning systems.
Through the smart thermostats we monitor, we have seen many A/C systems running 10 to 12 hours per day over the past several weeks just to maintain the set temperature. That level of runtime can quickly expose weak components, clogged drain lines, dirty filters, low refrigerant, or overdue maintenance.
During this type of heat, it is especially important to make sure the A/C system has been properly serviced, filters are clean, condensate drain lines are clear, float switches are working, and the drain pan is not holding water. A clogged drain line can cause the system to shut down or lead to water damage inside the home.
