As of 3 hours ago, here is what we are facing over the next few days.
I know what you are thinking, "Pssh, Hurricane Category 2, that's nothing!"
But listen, 100 mph winds within 25 miles of the eye of Hurricane Idalia with sustained winds in the 30-40 mph range. And just so you know I'm not a meteorologist, I'm just watching the news.

Based off a study done in 2008 by Dr. Kim D. Coder, a Professor of Tree Health Care at the University of Georgia, when the wind speeds range from 32-38 mph large trees begin to sway, trees break/uproot at only 55-63 mph, and anything >73 mph can cause massive tree loss.

While it is less likely the winds we experience from Hurricane Idalia will be causing massive damage, keep in mind it is possible for instances like this to happen. Even with individuals taking all the precautions they can imagine taking, sometimes trees are the last thing on their mind.
