Ticks are becoming a SERIOUS issue throughout South Florida… and what we’re seeing in the field lately is honestly alarming.

Areas and neighborhoods that once barely had tick activity are now seeing large numbers showing up regularly. As invasive iguanas continue traveling through canals, seawalls, rooftops, yards, and neighboring properties, they may be helping transport ticks into entirely new areas and ecosystems.

Now before anybody jumps to conclusions... this post isn’t about fear mongering or conspiracy theories. It’s about real field observations from boots on the ground.

We want to hear from YOU:
Are other trappers, wildlife operators, pet owners, landscapers, and outdoor workers seeing the same thing?
Has the tick population exploded where you live?
Or has this always been a hidden issue that people are just now noticing?

One thing is certain:
Please keep your pets protected and stay on top of flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Stay vigilant out there, South Florida.

And now the big question…
What do YOU think happened to this iguana’s arm? 👀

Give us a call if you or someone you know needs help with invasive or nuisance animals on your property. (954) 675-6387.

While out in the field, we went toe-to-toe with an absolute GIANT... a true monster of an iguana.
This beast tipped the scales at just over 15 lbs, pure muscle and was easily one of the most aggressive we’ve ever handled. He was caught humanely and firearm-free using a noose pole, a reminder that our work is done with respect, professionalism, and most important safety first.

Unfortunately, this iguana had been regularly fed by residents, which made him fearless and territorial. Please do NOT feed wild iguanas... Once they lose their fear of humans, they become a real danger.

These animals have:

🦎 Razor-sharp teeth
💥 Incredible jaw strength (capable of serious damage)
⚡️ Powerful tail whips
🐶 And yes, they CAN injure your pets

A giant like this is impressive to see, but trust us… you do not want to be on the wrong end of that bite.

Respect wildlife. Don’t feed them. Stay safe

South Florida may have a new heavyweight invader on the rise… the Mexican Spiny Tail Iguana. 🦎🔥

Closely related to the Black Spiny Tail Iguana, these reptiles are rapidly adapting to urban environments across South Florida and becoming one of the most difficult invasive lizards to control once established.

Unlike your typical green iguana, spiny tails are built different:
Extremely fast... considered one of the fastest lizards in the world.

Highly defensive and aggressive when cornered. Excellent climbers with incredible roof and structure access. Opportunistic feeders that consume insects, plants, fruit, bird eggs, small reptiles, and more!

These reptiles thrive around:
• Tile roofs
• Soffit vents
• Canal systems
• Seawalls
• Pool equipment areas
• Rock piles
• Attics and roof voids

Once they establish on a roof system, they become extremely difficult to remove. South Florida barrel tile roofs mimic the rocky cliff habitats they naturally evolved around in Central America, making homes, condos, and commercial buildings the perfect fortress.

Juveniles often display bright green coloration like this one before darkening with age, which is why many people mistake them for standard green iguanas at first glance.

The reality? These invasive reptiles are smart, adaptable, territorial, and rapidly spreading throughout South Florida.

Trapper Dan with American Iguana Management is ready to respond and happy to help if you're dealing with invasive reptiles or nuisance wildlife issues at your property.
