When my Dad was ready to retire he was already playing lots of puzzles.

If you haven’t tried Wordle yet, it’s addictive and I’ve been playing for years. Nytimes, HelloWordle, MerriamWebster all have free Wordle games. For a time I played Foodle which is Wordle about food.

Dad played Sodoku in the newspaper. I like the NYTimes website for Sodoku. Plus there is USA Today’s crossword and apps with Word Searches.

Years ago I had read about the Batan Death March in the Philippines in WWII. I knew that Pearl Harbor and the Philippines (at the time an American territory) were attacked simultaneously on 12/7-8/1941

I recalled there were other attacks by the Japanese that coincided with Pearl Harbor and the Philippines.

Fortunately I can ask Grok:
— Hong Kong, where Japanese forces targeted British colonial defenses,
— Malaya (British),
— Singapore (British),
— Thailand (independent), and
— Guam (US).

As a retiree, it’s invigorating to learn more history. Don’t ever be so exposed at the Allies were then.
