Hurricane Season 2026 is here, SWFL ๐ดโ๏ธ
This is my 46th hurricane season -- I've been fortunate enough to never have to evacuate --- and yes, these are real things we have done. With each storm, we are a little more prepared and learn something new every time.
1. Don't wait until the week of or week before to trim your trees & bushes --- it's the time of year where this should be done on a regular basis.
2. Have bottled water, candles, batteries & canned food in the pantry, always.
3. Get the generator and keep gas on hand through season - hoarding gas at the pump with 50 jugs the day before a hurricane makes you unprepared.
4. Hurricane Impact windows are worth it!!!
5. Do not cut your pool screens --- this does nothing -- instead, strap your screen doors open (or take them off) to help with air flow.
6. If you have a vinyl fence, remove the gates in advance to also help with air flow.
7. Review and know where your homeowners & flood insurance policies are!
A little preparation now can save a whole lot of stress later.
And donโt forget โ take updated photos/videos of your home and valuables for insurance purposes ๐ธ
Living in Florida means staying ready, not scared.
Stay safe, stay informed, and check on your neighbors โค๏ธ
