What could your business do with up to $25,000?

Main Street Iowa offers the Open 4 Business program to encourage business development in designated Main Street districts around the state – including in Charles City. Existing businesses within the downtown district can take part in this competitive grant opportunity to help expand and grow. Finalists will receive $5,000, with the overall winner to receive an additional $20,000!

Applicants will be required to complete an online application and submit a 3-minute pitch video about their business idea and how the Open 4 Business grant funds would help. Videos can be recorded using a cell phone and will be judged on content. Be creative and have fun!

Eligible expenses include inventory, equipment, marketing, computers and software upgrades. Ineligible expenses are rent, payroll for employees, utilities, remodeling and vehicles.

Interested applicants should contact the Main Street Charles City office at 401 North Main St., (641) 228-2335, or email [email protected], for more information. The local program may also be able to provide additional technical or financial assistance.

Each Main Street Iowa community may submit only one Open 4 Business contest entry, so if multiple applications are made by local businesses, the Business Improvement Committee of Main Street Charles City will review them and select the application it feels is the most competitive. Local applications are due by 4 p.m. on June 8, 2026.

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, February 28 - 7 pm at Comet Gym

A group of 8th grade students are once again preparing to host Charles City's 8th Annual Trivia Night! Past funds benefited Riverside Cemetery, and we are pleased to report we have officially completed our mission of restoring the 119-year-old chapel. Thanks to the generous community, a dream of teenagers back in 2017 came to fruition.

NEW CAUSE: Proceeds from our event will now go to the Floyd County Museum to help construct a tractor storage building at the Cedar Valley Engine Club grounds in partnership with the club and the Swartzrock family. Charles City has a storied history with the first tractors produced here in town by the Hart Parr company dating back to the beginnings of the last century.

COST: A table sponsorship for 6 people to play is $100 through February 1st. After February 1, the price increases to $150. This includes event participation and unlimited snacks and soft drinks throughout the evening—plus a guarantee you'll leave a little smarter and smiling.

We're also looking for silent auction donations. These can be dropped off at the Charles City Middle School office.
