“If we walk away from the Beachfront Management Act, we will kill the goose that lays the golden egg," writes Dr. Rob Young, Director of the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines at Western Carolina University. His excellent commentary piece recently published in the The Post and Courier touches on the importance of longstanding coastal laws in South Carolina that protect our beaches.

As Dr. Young mentioned so precisely, “The act recognized that sea walls harm beaches and impact neighboring properties. It also recognized that beaches and dunes warrant protection because they provide a public amenity as well as excellent protection for the infrastructure behind them.” Read the full Post and Courier article below to learn more about the critical laws we work to uphold and protect every legislative session.

The Story of Charleston Livability

As an advocate for livable communities and sustainable development, my approach to real estate in Charleston is unique.

From walkable communities and wetlands preservation, to high performance homes and faithfully preserved historic gems on the Charleston Peninsula, my expertise in smart community design complements my involvement with historical and ecological conservation.

Discovering a Passion

Growing up in and around the expansive forests and marshes of South Carolina, I found my passion to create balance with the harmony of nature. As a student at the University of South Carolina, I completed my degree in Biological Sciences that often found me trudging through marshland and hiking the foothills to observe the full spectrum of their biodiversity.
