RESIDENTS:
The Board and CAMS have recently received a complaint regarding smoke odors in common areas, including hallways and stairwells. This is a reminder of our community guidelines and we ask for your cooperation.
Smoking in Common Areas
Smoking, va**ng, or producing smoke of any kind in common areas—including hallways, stairwells, and shared spaces—is strictly prohibited. In addition to creating discomfort for neighbors, cigarette smoke, cooking smoke, and v**e fumes are known to trigger our building’s sensitive fire alarm systems. This can result in unnecessary building evacuations and “false alarm” emergency response from the fire department.
Being Courteous to Your Neighbors
While the Association cannot prohibit smoking inside your unit we ask residents who smoke or v**e indoors to be mindful of how odors can travel. Smoke seeps through walls, doors, and ventilation systems, impacting neighbors neighboring units and shared spaces. As a courtesy to your neighbors, we strongly encourage residents to:
- Use in-home air filtration or purification systems
- Open windows or increase ventilation when smoking indoors
- Take reasonable steps to minimize odors escaping into common areas
- Never open your hallway door to vent kitchen smoke — this practice sets off hallway detectors
Ongoing Monitoring
We are continuing to monitor this concern and will work to address issues as they arise. Residents who experience concerns should report them through the CAMS portal so they can be properly addressed.
