Nature has some creative and cute ways to slow us down!
In Florida, sandhill cranes don’t cross the road because they need to. They cross it because traffic has temporarily entered their jurisdiction. 🌴🐦💀
They don’t run. They don’t flap. They don’t even remotely care that there are twelve cars stacked behind them and someone late for work slowly unraveling emotionally in the driver’s seat.
They just walk. Slowly. Deliberately. Like tiny feathered crossing guards enforcing laws nobody remembers agreeing to.
And every Floridian knows that exact moment. You’re driving peacefully, music on, windows cracked, minding your business… then suddenly— there they are.
Standing in the middle of the road like they called the meeting. 😭
The second your headlights hit them, you already know the rules: • braking is mandatory
• honking changes nothing
• getting too close feels illegal somehow
• and the crane will absolutely make eye contact like YOU are the inconvenience
The worst part is they never travel alone. One crosses… then another appears from the bushes… then a third emerges like backup just arrived.
Traffic completely collapses while these birds move at the speed of expired paperwork.
And nobody argues with them either. Because deep down, every Florida driver understands one thing:
That crane is more confident than everybody on the road combined.
You can be driving a lifted truck. You can have 400 horsepower. You can be late for literally anything.
Doesn’t matter.
In Florida, the sandhill cranes are not part of traffic.
They ARE traffic. 🌴🐦
