The Night Ministry Providing human connection, housing support and health care to unhoused members of our community.

The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization whose mission is to provide human connection, housing support, and health care to those who are unhoused or experiencing poverty. With an open heart, we compassionately accept each individual as they are and work alongside them to advocate for their immediate physical, emotional, and social needs while affirming our shared humanity. Last year, The Night Ministry served nearly 6,000 adults and young people. Our Health Outreach Program provided 1,638 free health assessments to individuals who struggle to access traditional health care and prevented 383 visits to the emergency room. Our Youth Housing Programs provided 535 unhoused young people and 101 of their children with safe housing and supportive services.

Legacy Thursday: Night Lights Edition ✨ Tonight is our Associate Board’s signature event, Night Lights, so we’re looking back at where it all began: the very first Night Lights in 2014.

Before settling on Night Lights as their marquee event, the Associate Board hosted numerous successful fundraisers. They’ve kept that tradition alive, but Night Lights remains the gold standard. Since that first night, it has raised well over $1.2 million for our neighbors and TNM supportive programs. The inaugural event also introduced the legendary W**e Toss. Prices may have changed over the years, but it’s still a crowd favorite.

Come be part of the legacy! Join us tonight at 5:30 pm at Marshall’s Landing. 🎟️ Get your tickets: https://onecau.se/nightlights2026

Putting their best face forward. 📸 💙 A professional headshot can open doors, especially for young people just starting their careers and planning their next steps. That’s why we’re so grateful to local photographer Rob Castilla, who regularly provides pro bono headshots for our Youth 4 Truth committee members.

Rob’s generosity helps our young leaders step into job applications, interviews, and new opportunities with confidence.

Thank you, Rob, for sharing your talent and time with our community. See more of his work at https://www.robcastillaphoto.com/ .castilla

Huge thank you, Ryan Companies! 💙💚 Last month, the team at Ryan Companies welcomed us into their Westmont offices for a serve & learn, and wow, did they deliver. Their employees jumped in and assembled an impressive number of hygiene kits in a short amount of time. These are much-needed supplies that will go directly to our unhoused neighbors and others living in extreme poverty across Chicago.

A special thank you to Trish for leading the effort, and to everyone at Ryan Companies for embracing The Night Ministry, stepping up to help those in need, and naming us as one of your Ryan Gives Back partners. We’re so grateful for your partnership.

A new look, a new sense of home. 💙🏡 Our Pathways program offers young adults ages 18 to 24 who were previously unhoused a place to live, a path to permanent housing, and the case management and supportive resources to help them plan for what’s next.

Recently, one of our scattered site homes received some wonderful, brand-new furniture. A home should feel like one, and residents deserve to take pride in the space they share. A huge thank you to The Junkies Bros, who went above and beyond by providing a full service, moving in and assembling every single piece.

Legacy Thursday: Young professionals, lasting impact. 💛
Since the early 1980s, young professionals have been showing up for The Night Ministry, giving their time, energy, and creativity to serve neighbors experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Today, that legacy lives on through our Associate Board: a passionate group of young leaders who support our mission through advocacy, fundraising, and volunteer engagement. They build community, expand awareness, and connect new audiences to our work.

Every October, they host Night Lights, their signature fundraising event, raising more than $100,000 each year to support our programs and services. And all year long, they organize and champion events that fuel our work and inspire others to join in.

Decades later, the next generation is still lighting the way.

Legacy Thursday: Meeting people where they are, since 2007. Long before mobile health care was widely recognized as a model for reaching people on the margins, The Night Ministry was a pioneer in mobile HIV testing. When we launched the program in 2007, HIV/AIDS was still a serious health crisis, and our unhoused neighbors faced some of the greatest barriers to testing, treatment, and support.
So we brought testing to them: on the street, on the bus, in the places where trust is built one conversation at a time.

From 2014 to 2018 alone, our team completed 2,536 HIV tests. Each one was a chance to connect someone with the care, treatment, and dignity they deserve.
That commitment to bringing health care to our neighbors, wherever they are, is part of our legacy. It's also how we continue to show up today, 50 years in and counting.
