Happy Earth Day!

I believe 2020 is going to feature many more home gardens! Maybe it's because we're sheltering in place because of covid-19 - maybe it's because we have a new appreciation of where our food comes from - whatever it may be, I think the Earth will benefit from our added attention.

Here's a picture of my kids getting one of our gardens ready for planting. We grow tomatoes, beans, bell peppers, jalapenos, zucchini, yellow squash, and pumpkins every year. This year the kids would like to add corn and strawberries to the mix!

In wrapping up these tips over the last few days, one of the most important tips to prevent spreading Covid-19 is to maintain social distance. We all want things to go back to normal (and they will!!) but let's all do our share in preventing the spread.
If you need anything, I will gladly run to the store for you and drop items off on your porch. If you need a listening ear, I have two that I will gladly let you use!

There are too many hungry bellies in our community. If you're in a position to donate, The Salvation Army Norridge Citadel has an active food pantry and can always use donations - either monetary or food.

They are currently in need of canned tuna, macaroni & cheese, and canned vegetables.

For a monetary donation, it is best to send or drop off the check at their location - 8354 West Foster Avenue. Checks should be made out to The Salvation Army Norridge Citadel. They are open Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Fridays 9:00 a.m. to noon to accept your monetary or food donations.

As many of our community members have lost employment due to covid-19, it is important - now more than ever - to help our neighbors!

Happy Sunday, friends!

There are so many ways to connect with one another while maintaining social distancing guidelines. Here are some of my favorite ways to connect with loved ones and people in general:
1. ZOOM! This is a free program that let's you video chat from a computer or mobile device.
2. Social media - Reach out to friends and check your news feed - your friends will be happy to hear from you and you'll see some beautiful moments in your news feed.
3. Chalk messages - Whether it is in front of your house of a public sidewalk, spread some love with a positive message or drawing.
4. Say hello or smile at people when you're out on a walk! Obviously keep your social distance, but acknowledge others warmly! In a time of isolation, your smile may be just what someone needs!
