Downsizing Case Study (Part 4)

On moving day, the movers loaded everything onto the truck. Because it was a local move, we met our client at their new home and coordinated the next phase of the transition. We made sure every piece of furniture and every box was placed in the correct room from the very beginning.

Once the moving truck was empty, we immediately began the organized unpacking process. We unpacked, organized, and put everything away so their new home felt comfortable and functional from day one. All they had to do was maintain the systems we created—and, of course, start meeting new friends and enjoying their new community!

Helping our clients begin their next chapter with confidence, comfort, and ease is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. We love setting them up for success so they can truly relax and enjoy their new home.

Downsizing Case Study (Part 3)

It didn't happen quickly because our client was still grieving. It happened compassionately, patiently, and entirely at their pace. Respecting their emotional bandwidth throughout the process was paramount.

Once decisions were made, we sorted everything into clear categories: donate, recycle, share with a specific family member or friend, or discard anything that was broken or beyond repair. One of our goals is to eliminate as much homework as possible for our clients, especially when it comes to donations.

At the end of each session, we loaded the donations into our vehicle and took them away. We happily transport anything that fits in our car or truck...so no pianos! (Haha!)

Over the years, we've built a robust network of outstanding charities throughout the Denver area that benefit from our clients' donations by giving those items a second life. This is incredibly important to many of our clients, and it's equally important to us. They don't want their belongings ending up in a landfill, and neither do we.

By taking care of the donation drop-offs, our clients don't have to carry the burden of figuring out where everything should go after they've already made the difficult decision to let it go. As we often say, "Sharing is caring," and that simple reminder frequently brings comfort and encouragement throughout the process.

Once our client decided what would be moving with them, we carefully and methodically packed everything in an organized manner. Every box was clearly labeled with the room it belonged in at the new home, and we included detailed contents on each box. That way, if they needed a particular item before everything was unpacked, it could be found quickly and easily. Create an Open First box with medications, toiletries, toilet paper and coffee.

Downsizing Case Study (Part 2)

We started with the editing process, carefully walking alongside them as we sorted through decades of belongings they had thoughtfully collected over the years. Together, we looked through every cabinet, every closet, every drawer, and every bookcase. We edited clothing, kitchen items, artwork, décor, keepsakes, and so much more. Our role was to gently guide them through the decisions of what would accompany them into this next stage of life.

We asked thoughtful questions such as:
• Which items do you want to be surrounded by because they bring you joy and hold meaningful memories?
• Which belongings have served their purpose and are no longer needed in this new chapter?
• How do you envision decorating your new home?
• What will comfortably fit within the smaller floor plan?

These conversations were all an important part of the downsizing process.
