As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday this 4th of July, let’s also recognize the surveyors whose precision, perseverance, and dedication helped shape this country.
Men like:
George Washington, who began his career as a surveyor in Virginia, later becoming the first president of the United States.
Thomas Hutchins, the first geographer of the United States, who established the first east-west line of the new public land system, starting near East Liverpool.
Moses Cleaveland, whose surveys helped shape the early settlement of Ohio’s Connecticut Western Reserve, and the reason we have “Cleveland”.
They all, and many more, played essential roles in building America. As surveyors they mapped out the western frontier, established property boundaries, planned roads and communities, and provided the framework for the growth of the United States.
250 years later and land surveyors continue that proud tradition by protecting property rights, supporting infrastructure, and helping build communities of tomorrow. It is an honor to be part of a profession whose work has been so foundational.
We wish you a safe and happy 4th of July. May God bless you, and God bless America. 🇺🇸
