Fall getaways under 3 hours from Starkville that I'd return to every year 🍂

If you're itching for a day trip or a weekend away, here's where I'd point you first.

📍 Tupelo (about 1 hour 15 minutes) — The Natchez Trace Parkway runs right through town, so you get the fall foliage drive and a stop at the Elvis Presley Birthplace in the same afternoon.

📍 Tishomingo State Park (about 2 hours) — Bear Creek Canyon, a swinging bridge, and sandstone bluffs that don't look like anywhere else in Mississippi.

📍 Birmingham, AL (about 2 hours 15 minutes) — far enough to feel like a real trip, close enough to be home for dinner.

📍 Memphis, TN (about 3 hours) — Beale Street, Graceland, and enough going on to fill a whole weekend.

And those are just the ones I keep going back to.

Wondering what it's really like living in Starkville? Here's why I think it's worth the tradeoff. 👇

People are quick to point out that it's smaller, quieter, more rural than what they're used to, but that only tells part of the story.

For me, the payoff is in the day to day. It's being five minutes from a Saturday morning latte on Main Street, having a wildlife refuge and a state park both twenty minutes away instead of a two-hour drive, and knowing a random Tuesday might end with live music two blocks from home.

That's the stuff that changes how a place feels to live in.

So yes, I get the criticism. I just think what you get in return matters so much more.

And fall is one of the best times to experience exactly what makes living here worth it.
