Have you ever seen someone taking a picture of your home, or your neighbor’s home, from the car?
Hi. It’s me. Your neighborhood appraiser.
I am required by the bank/lemder to take real life pictures of similar homes that have sold in the area, within the last year. I use those as one part of my process to determine the value of an appraisal I’m working on.
I am also required to take pictures up and down the street where homes reside to capture a neighborhood view.
Generally, we avoid taking comparable photos with people in the background, but on occassion, with a busy street or during active times of the day, it can be challenging. We do our best.
Here’s what to do:
✅ Ask yourself if your home, or someone else’s, has sold in the last year. That cameraman is likely not a creeper, but an appraiser.
✅ Ask him/her what they do for a living before threatening, showing a weapon, throwing something at them or calling the police. They’ll gladly tell you who they are and what they are doing, peacefully.
✅ Thank them for providing checks and balances in our society.
Summer is “busy season” when most houses are for sale so you’ll see us more frequently right now.
Please share this with your neighbors to be on the lookout.
