When a lease decision gets close, many renters ask one big question:
“I always make my housing payment. Does that mean I am ready to buy?”
A more useful approach is to break it into three smaller questions.
1) Housing-payment experience
Have you consistently managed a recurring housing payment?
2) Mortgage qualification
What does a complete mortgage review show about your current options?
3) Personal payment comfort
What monthly housing payment would still leave room for the rest of your life?
These questions are related, but they are not interchangeable. Looking at each one before touring homes can help you build a more realistic buying timeline.
