This is the biggest problem with the "disrupters" buying homes. 2,000 homes out of the 9,000 bought by Zillow are being bulk sold to an investment company to be used as rentals. That's 2,000 homes that families and individuals never had the opportunity to buy when the biggest challenge facing the market today is supply of homes.

Pretium Partners is buying the houses in 20 markets with plans to rent them to families.
