You’ve probably seen it:
Business Insider and others are now reporting a 56.99%
chance of a U.S. recession — driven by global instability,
tariff news, and shifting economic conditions.
But here’s the real question:
What does that mean for Dallas-Fort Worth real estate?
Do Recessions = Falling Home Prices?
It’s the assumption most buyers make… but the data tells
a different story.
In 4 of the last 6 U.S. recessions, home prices either held
steady or increased.
The only major drop? 2008 — and that crash was driven
by the housing market itself, not a broad economic
pullback.
According to CoreLogic, home values typically follow
their existing trend through slowdowns.
In DFW, where we continue to see strong job growth,
steady migration, and expanding development, a major
home price drop is unlikely.
