What is Assessed Value?

Assessed value is the value a local taxing authority assigns to a property to help calculate property taxes. While it is based on the property's appraised value, it is not always the same as the home's market value or the price someone is willing to pay for it.

At Ellis County Title Company, our goal is to keep you informed, protected, and confident every step of the way.

One of the most common questions we hear is:
"Is earnest money refundable?"

The answer is: It depends.

In Texas, earnest money may be refundable up until a certain point in the transaction. Typically, it becomes nonrefundable after the option (feasibility) period expires, unless the contract provides another reason for its return, such as the seller being unable to fulfill the terms of the agreement or another contractual contingency.
