Exciting News for Howe ISD! 🎓

We are thrilled to announce that, in a pending partnership with Howe ISD, Gunter ISD has been preliminarily selected by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the 2026 Rural Pathway Excellence Partnership (R-PEP) Planning & Expansion Grant.

Through this state-funded grant under ESC Region 10, Gunter ISD and Howe ISD will collaborate on planning and expanding high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. By joining forces, our districts will work together to increase access to rigorous, high-wage, and high-demand college and career opportunities for our students through our newly created Lone Star Innovation Zone.

What does this mean for our students?
• Expanded CTE Pathways: Broader access to specialized career programs and technical learning experiences.
• Regional Collaboration: Combining regional resources with Gunter ISD to offer enhanced course options and industry preparation.
• Future-Ready Preparation: Stronger alignment with regional labor market demands to prepare graduates for successful transitions into college, trade certifications, and high-skill careers.

The R-PEP program empowers rural school districts to partner together and deliver top-tier career pathways for post-secondary success. We are proud to take this step forward for our students and community, and we look forward to working closely with Gunter ISD as planning gets underway!

The City of Van Alstyne ranked the #10 Safest City in Texas out of more than 1,225 municipalities in the state by eufy (link in the comments). The 2026 ranking comes on the heals of the #13 ranking last year by SafeWise.

Thank you to our first responders under the leadership of our Public Safety Director, Tim Barnes. Also for the leadership of our Mayor Jim Atchison and City Council, and our city leadership lead by City Manager, Lane Jones.

We continue to invest in the safety of our citizens. The state of the art $30-million dollar Public Safety Facility is expected to be complete before the end of this year.
