Ice Sculptures and Wish Lanterns added to An Old Fashioned Holiday 12/9!

“An Old Fashioned Holiday” is an outdoor celebration for all ages with lights, caroling, ornament and cookie decorating, writing letters to Santa, hot cocoa and cider, snacks and visits from Frosty and one of Santa’s reindeer.

The free event, organized by Darien Parks and Recreation Department, will take place from 2pm-5pm Saturday, Dec. 9th at Tilley Pond Park with a rain date the following day.

Come and enjoy some holiday cheer with your friends and neighbors. Take in the holiday lights and a roaring fire, snap a photo with our new ice sculptures (Olaf from Frozen and one of Santa's reindeer) or at our photo barn backdrop, decorate cookies and wooden ornaments then send a Wish Lantern over the pond as a community together at 4:30pm.

Families may purchase a lantern for $5.00 online in advance and send their wishes, hopes, and dreams or well wishes to loved ones across the pond during the event. The lantern send-off will be at approx. 4:30pm with lantern pick-up and all decorating beforehand during the event. Lanterns are on a first come, first served basis for online purchase ONLY and will not be refunded.

There will also be a letter writing station for kids to write letters to Santa.

Thanks to our generous sponsors, we will have complimentary festive old fashioned goodies including: hot cider, hot cocoa, cider donuts, fresh popcorn and PEZ dispensers available while supplies last. In an effort to remain sustainable, residents are encouraged to only take what you need and “join the mug club” by bringing a fun 8oz mug from home to help reduce paper and food waste during the event. Thank you to PEZ Candy USA, Elli Travel Group, The Taylor Family and the Darien Youth Commission for partnering with us to make this possible!

The event is FREE to attend. FREE parking will be available at all adjacent commuter parking lots. RSVP not required, but if you hope to purchase a lantern, you may do so online before the event. Lanterns are for sale on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.

We hope you will join us for crafts and treats and enjoy warming up by the fire as you listen to some holiday music performances.

In the case of inclement weather, this event will take place on Sunday, December 10th, 2023 from 2pm-5pm at Tilley Pond.

Our Dog Walking Program at W**d Beach is Back!
Starting Wednesday, November 1st through March, we are welcoming your pups back to W**d Beach! Dogs are allowed in the designated area only and owners are reminded that all dogs over 6 months must be licensed with the Town Clerk's office. While at the beach, check out our W**d Beach Clean-Up Station created after Darien teen, Kateri Daly's dog cut her paw on W**d Beach litter. Kateri made cleaning up the beach her Scouting project while in Troop 190. The photo below is Kateri Daly promoting her cleanup initiative!
