Shoal Update: 1/10/2026

We waited to release a new Inlet Report until dredging operations within the inlet were completed. It now appears that the dredge has moved on from the main cut, allowing us to provide this updated shoaling report.

The dredging operations removed the previously hidden sandbar located in the center of the Ponce Inlet shortcut. As a result, our recommended route has been adjusted slightly due to significant sand movement throughout the area. Water depths can change rapidly at low tide; however, current soundings indicate approximately 9 feet of water at low tide. Mariners should pay close attention to floating red markers 8A and 8B. Shoaling hazards extend between these markers and continue westward beyond them. Exercise caution when making your turn in this area and avoid the shallow water. Note that the shoal’s position may differ from previous GPS tracks near these markers.

Shoaling near the inlet entrance by the dog beach in Ponce Inlet has shifted farther away from the mangroves and has deepened slightly. At low tide, depths as shallow as 2.5 feet have been observed while maintaining approximately 30 feet off the mangroves. After passing this area, deeper water can be found closer to the dog beach before returning to a centered position between Sand Dollar and the rocks north of the dog beach.

A worsening shoaling hazard is developing just inside the Ponce Inlet jetties, expanding between green markers 5 and 7. Sand accumulation is creating shallower conditions just outside the marked channel. Cutting the markers or navigating on the incorrect side may pose a serious risk, particularly for larger vessels. This area becomes especially rough on an outgoing tide, with observed depths as shallow as 4.5 feet.

Please use extreme caution when navigating the inlet. Shoaling conditions are constantly changing, so reduce speed, remain vigilant, and operate safely. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us locally!
