Early Years and Family Background Born on September 3, 1961, in Washington D.C.,August Wolf grew up in a military family. His father, Walter Wolf, was a U.S. Navy officer and a Georgetown graduate, originally from Queens, New York. His mother, Isabel Wolf, was a Trinity College graduate with a background in food science. August was the second child, with two sisters, Isabel and Erika. Isabel pursued a career in the classical music industry, while Erika became a professor of art history and a Princeton graduate. During the Vietnam War, the Wolf family lived in Hawaii, eventually relocating to Minnesota in 1968 when August’s mother accepted a teaching position at the University of Minnesota, and his father started teaching geography and anthropology. Education and Athletic Beginnings August attended St. Paul Academy (SPA), where he discovered his talent for shot put under the guidance of Athletic Director Dave Montgomery. In 1979, August graduated and went on to Princeton University, where he studied at the Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs, graduating cm laude. While at Princeton, August was a key figure on the track team, setting an Ivy League shot put record that still stands more than four decades later. His athletic journey saw him rise from modest beginnings to outperform top competitors, earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic Achievement and Career Transition After graduating, August received a scholarship to study at the University of Bonn, Germany, where he trained for the 1984 Olympics. He ranked highly in international competitions, ultimately earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. At the Los Angeles Games, August placed fourth in the shot put. Although not medaling, the experience was pivotal for him. Following his Olympic career, August worked at Kidder Peabody on the Chicago Board of Trade and later pursued other financial roles, including positions at Deutsche Bank, Lazard, and BNP Paribas. In 2017, August shifted into commercial real estate, establishing himself as a commercial title agent representing Langdon Title, a top New York agency. Supporting Athletics and Community Engagement August has made it a priority to foster athletic success both within his family and in his community. His children have excelled in sports, with his son AJ achieving state championships in New York and playing football at Duke University, and his other children excelling in basketball and track. From 1995 to 2015, August was instrumental in raising funds for the Princeton Track program. He also founded the U.S. Athletic Trust, which supported over 100 athletes in their Olympic pursuits. In 2016, August made a foray into politics by running for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut. Although he faced significant challenges during his campaign, he remains active in politics, advising candidates in South Florida. After spending time in commercial real estate in New York, in 2025 he founded The South Florida Freedom Foundation, a 501(c)(4) social benefit organization dedicated to championing common-sense, community- and business-friendly policies across Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
