Happy little mid-mod tri-level at golden hour in Lakewood’s Belmar Gardens this evening!

One of over 800 mid-century modern homes in the city of Lakewood, Colorado, and one of over 7,000 in the Denver area. How do I know?! I counted!

I love the simple architectural language on this one, with T1-11 plywood siding juxtaposed with unpainted red brick with a wonderful window wall inbetween that goes all . . . the . . . way to that super thin roofline! This is the thing that today’s architects and builders get wrong the most when they try to emulate the mid-mod style - it never looks right if the glass doesn't go all the way to the roof plane like this does. I get that we can’t do super thin rooflines like this anymore (maybe insulation technology will help us with that someday, but for now, brutally thick rooflines are the rule), but I still believe you can get the glass right!

I also love how the slope of the roof *almost* mirrors the slope of the street!

On this day, 10 years ago, I grabbed these snapshots of this incredible little mid-century modern light-industrial building in Englewood that you have probably never seen, and probably never will . . . but it is definitely worth your admiration! Look close!! Those colors are mosaic tile!

I love this great little vacant retail storefront in Applewood Village! Someone should open something fun in here.

I couldn't figure out what was in this building when it was built in 1961, but in the late 1970s/early ’80s, it was home if The Book Place of Applewood.

Happy 150 to the state of Colorado!

Called the “Centennial State” for becoming a state around the USA’s 100th anniversary. Did you know . . . before Colorado was established, much of the state east of the Continental Divide was part of the Kansas Territory! That’s right, Kansas used to have mountains! Also, the city of Denver is named for a Kansas governor. Some fun facts that you probably didn't know!
