Detroit’s largest residence is going back on the market at a steep discount compared to the last time it was open to buyers.

The 100-year-old Bishop Mansion in Detroit’s historic Palmer Woods neighborhood will hit the market Monday at an asking price of $1.25 million. Just more than two years ago, the same residence was listed for $9 million.

The 34,000-square-foot residence was quietly purchased in October for $400,000 by an entity tied to Mike Manley, the former CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and head of Americas for Stellantis. Prior to Manley’s ownership, the home on more than 2 acres was owned by a wealthy California agricultural family.

“You’re buying a historic mansion for $35 per square foot, which is just insane,” said Alex Chapman, the listing agent with Christie’s International Real Estate. “I just sold one in Birmingham for $1,100 a square foot. Even if you put $3 million or $4 million into it to complete it, you’re still well under market value.”
