The owner needed the house to double as a photo studio. The main area, with plenty of natural light, serves this purpose by quickly removing the furniture.

The upper level, covered by a tensile structure, is ideal for practicing yoga.

Shipping containers were used since they diminished cost and shortened the construction timeline.

Environmental impact was reduced by carefully selecting recycled and sustainably sourced materials and collecting rainwater for toilets and irrigation. Large windows reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day.

The double-height of the central area allows for cross ventilation, eliminating the warm air that rises from the house.

Sliding bamboo panels protect the large glass surfaces from the sun's rays at any time of the year.

A contemporary cabin for rent that takes advantage of a site with incredible views, and solves construction challenges posed by the steep terrain.

Its purpose is to make the most of the spectacular view and integrate its occupants into the natural surroundings. Its orientation allows enjoying both the sunrise and the sunset.

On the upper level, the bedroom dominates the entire mountain range. A projecting volume with a whirlpool bath gives the sensation of being suspended in the air.

The panoramic panes are made possible by the use of small-section steel frames. A very light construction system, wood coating, and lightweight materials facilitated building this cabin on top of the mountain.

Natural light reduces energy consumption. Comfort is achieved with natural cross-ventilation. If needed, a fireplace and an air conditioning system are included.

How to tell if an architect did his/her homework? If the site's conditions were analyzed in such a way as to produce a design that can't be replicated anywhere else.

A clearing in the woods, two existing boulders, the natural mountain slope, spectacular views, local micro-climate, and the client's needs generated a unique solution.

The house appears to lightly touch the ground, allowing rainwater to flow beneath it.

The design is a Ying and Yang concept. One half opens to the views and yard and is fully transparent, while the other one serves as the sleeping area.

The rocks act as columns, supporting the cross-laminated timber beams while giving the design a natural character.

Materials were selected with a sustainable intent.

A nearby shipping container accommodates a guest dormitory and services.

The simple design, located in a tropical dry area, originates from the need of the owner to build it himself.

The structural grid is made of prefabricated steel frames. Modular interior and exterior wall panels, inserted between the vertical supports, alternate with rammed-earth walls.

Exterior materials are factory finished, minimizing labor during construction and reducing maintenance to a minimum.

The steel roof overhangs were designed to block the sun during the warm months while allowing them into the house during cooler months.

The design considered sustainability concepts such as cooling through cross-ventilation, solar panels to produce electricity, a solar hot water system, and a worm-farm blackwater filtration system to irrigate the garden with nutrient-rich water.

No matter the location and climate, I can design and build your home in paradise, Costa Rica! 📍🇨🇷

The design of this beach house had to deal with a steep terrain that dropped very close to the water's edge.

The facade facing the ocean is glazed in its entirety, creating a unidirectional view and filling the house with natural light, producing the sensation that the house is much larger.

The main interior finishes are plywood on the walls and wood flooring, giving the house a laid-back feeling.

Corrugated aluminum sheets protect the house from salty sea spray. Small windows cut out into the side walls allow cross ventilation and cool the home naturally.

The lower floor walls are built out of sandstone, giving the feeling that the house emerges from the rocky slope.

Solar panels and rainwater harvesting add to the sustainable concept of the project.

The consideration of site conditions adds to the value of the final solution!

From the outside, it may not be an absolute beauty, but it complies with the owner's requests: accommodate two families, maximum security, and minimal maintenance.

The house has two wings, separating the living from the sleeping areas. This last wing was designed to be shut down with lockable sliding steel panel doors when the owner went away for extended periods.

The exterior, covered with aluminum-based corrugated sheets, is perfect for keeping out the heat from the sun while allowing the house to be washed with a hose and never need a coat of paint.

The narrow layout allows maximum cross ventilation during the summer months, while the large overhangs protect the house from the sun's direct radiation.

Almost all your special requests can be met using a well-thought-out design process.

This house has a story.

The owner was downsizing for retirement. Some requirements had to be met. One was a passion for gardening, an essential activity for her golden years. Another was housing a collection of antique books. And, of course, a modest budget for a comfortable and low-maintenance home.

The solution? A rectangle where each room connects to an outside courtyard, plus a large fifth yard. Hence the name. This makes each room feel larger than it actually is.

The shelving system's black finish highlights the book collection, making it a focal point of the house.

The insulated outdoor panel system is complemented with recycled oak paneling internally. This kept the budget low. Also, the courtyards allow for cross-flow ventilation, cooling the house with little or no air-conditioning.

Good architecture is created not only by mastering architectural strategies, by considering the site's conditions, and by having ample knowledge of construction and of building materials. It also has to serve a purpose.

In this case, this house was designed for a writer to inspire creativity by accentuating the experience of living on the water's edge, giving the feeling of living on a boat.

The warmth of the wood finish gives refuge from the sometimes extreme climatic conditions. The exterior metal sheathing protects the house while offering a low-maintenance surface.

The views from the inside give the feeling of living among the jungle's top branches.

From the outside, the ‘bow house’ resembles the bow of a ship protruding from an ocean of green, overlooking the ocean.

The layout and main wood structure are both inspired by triangles. The supporting pillars resemble trees growing through the jungle, so the house seems to float on the treetops.

Wood and glass compose most of the architecture, making this project a very environmentally responsible and sustainable solution.

Why not own a home similar to this one in paradise, in Costa Rica! 📍🇨🇷!
