If you’re choosing between these towns, the differences aren’t small.
They’re lifestyle level different.
Here’s the real breakdown:
- Alexandria
Obvious: Old Town charm. Cobblestone streets. Waterfront.
Local truth: King Street on a Saturday morning before the tourists show up is the move. You can walk to dinner, but you’ll pay for that walkability. West End living is a totally different pace than Old Town. There's also different neighborhoods within Alexandria so if this the area you are most focused on we can dive into different neighborhoods.
- McLean
Obvious: Money. Big lots. Great schools.
Local truth: Quiet doesn’t mean boring here, it means privacy. Downtown McLean feels more like a suburb within a suburb than people expect. This is where you go when you want space and you’ve earned it.
- Falls Church
Obvious: Small footprint. Tight knit. Good schools.
Local truth: It’s tiny, but it punches way above its weight. Everything’s close. You know your neighbors. It’s the town people forget exists until they actually visit it.
- Vienna
Obvious: Family friendly. W&OD trail. Good value for the area.
Local truth: Weekend mornings on the trail feel like a different state. Neighborhoods here have real community, think block parties, front porches, and kids riding bikes. Less flash, more roots. Tyson's is close by for shopping.
Same region.
Very different rhythms.
