Willows & Pine is truly a hidden gem smack dab in the heart of Oakland’s Dimond District. The hood where they up to no good. Jk lol. A Black-owned Creole soul food spot that delivers comfort, flavor, and that “made with love” feeling in every bite.

Maybe I was starving… or maybe it was just that good, but everything I ordered was amazing. Can’t speak for anyone else. But I did peep some folks turning their nose up, some licking their fingers. I just know mine was good lol.

After laying our dear cousin to rest and celebrating her beautiful life, we gathered here to eat, laugh, and just be together. Right in the neighborhood—where the energy is real and the food is even better.

Definitely a must-try.

Food Feature:
• Short rib grilled cheese
• Blackened fish in Creole sauce over rice with collard greens
• Mac & cheese (hands down, one of the best roux-based I’ve had)

I had the honor of hosting my very first women’s empowerment workshop… and whew, what a moment. ✨

I’m not even going to lie—there were times I stuttered, moments I lost my place, and a few seconds where I completely blanked. I went in thinking I had to be perfect… but the truth is, I wasn’t. And somehow, that made it even more powerful.

Because despite all of that, the message still landed. You could feel it in the room—the emotion, the connection, the empowerment, the inspiration. It was real. It was raw. And it reminded me that perfection isn’t what moves people… authenticity does.

What I thought needed to be perfect turned out to be perfectly imperfect in the best way.

An experience I’ll never forget, and one that only made me more excited to keep using my voice and stepping into rooms like this. 💫
