I don't usually post listing photos, but I'm putting this one out there. First of all, the agent, Karigan Weaver of Keller Williams Advantage Realty, is a truly amazing human, and I'm grateful that she chose me as her listing photographer. When she called me about doing her grandmother's home, I was honored, because I know what this home means to her.

When I showed up, many family members were there. What would have been a typical run-of-the-mill day of shooting for me, turned into something much more. Having the photographer show up to do photos to help sell this house suddenly made everything very real for them. It was a time full of emotions - sadness, happiness, relief, and anxiety all wrapped into one. Bittersweet. This house was so meaningful to all of them. It was the house where they spent holidays, where they played in the fenced-in yard, or on the front porch, or on the patio, or on the street out front. It wasn't hard to recognize how important this was to them, so I started asking questions, such as what room did everyone gather in at Christmastime? Where did the grand piano sit? Whose bedroom was this? Is this the same stove that Mrs. Kendrick cooked dinner on? They opened up, started telling me stories, laughing, reminiscing, and remembering a happy time when this home held so much fun and love in it. Stories like this help me capture the warmth and beauty of a home, the little details that are sometimes overlooked - the sun coming through the kitchen window, sending a warm glow across the room, the rhododendron bushes outside the bedroom window, that porch swing that has had many hours of use- these things mattered then, and they matter now. Although the home is no longer furnished, there is still a warmth to it that is unmistakable.

I hope whoever buys this home will continue to laugh, work, play, and pray in it, cook on that magnificent stove, build fires in those fireplaces, and cook in the outside chimney stove, because these are the types of memories that every family deserves. And after spending time with the family, I am 100% sure that Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick would want the exact same thing - for this exceptional home to be loved dearly.

One of my favorites I've had the privilege of photographing. I love the charm and character of this old home.

It's just me, my camera, drone, and the hungry bear coming out of hibernation out here today doing listing photos.

Isn't it early for them to be out? I missed the photo op, because my camera wasn't turned on yet, dang it. He scrambled off quickly. Maybe I caught him in drone photos.

I fed at 5:30 this morning. It was cold. Horses were happy to see me, waiting impatiently for their grain. They still had lots of hay, slow feeders half full, hay hut loaded with hay, and strategically placed piles of hay outside the barn away from the west winds hadn't been devoured yet. There was lots of thick ice in the troughs, but tiny holes that a muzzle could poke through for fresh water still remained. Heated buckets were still 1/4 full. None of the horses are blanketed, and none of them are cold. I expected to have to blanket a couple of the older ones, but they are proving me wrong. Their coats are crazy thick and shiny this year. Good nutrition helps.

There's a calm and quiet in a barn in the early morning darkness. When I turn on the lights, I am met with squinting eyes, frosty whiskers, and soft nickers. Zara, my new pregnant mare, is settling in. She's not a fan of any of the other horses, but that's okay, because she has her own stall and paddock. She's quirky and super mareish, but, dang, she's pretty. Funny, too! She tips water buckets by playing in them, trashes her hay feeder, and loves to bite other horses as they pass by her stall. She is the queen of making snow angels, though. It's as if she rolls in the snow, then jumps up to admire her work.

After breakfast and fresh water, they head out in the snow to buck, roll, and play, before finding their hay piles. They don't seem to mind the cold as much as I do.

I've been doing this my entire life, but each year Mother Nature teaches me a new lesson about horse life. It's not glamorous...heck, it's not even fun most days. It's always unpredictable in the winter, always cold, and always physically demanding, but when I make my way back to the warmth of my home, I always, always, always turn around to look at the barns and see the beauty that they bring to my life.
