Save this one: trick-or-treat hours around the north side

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year (Oct. 31). Here's where things stand right now:

5–8 p.m.: Carmel, Westfield
5:30–8 p.m.: Fishers (confirmed for 2026), Noblesville
5:30–8:30 p.m.: McCordsville, Fortville
6–8 p.m.: Indianapolis, Lawrence

So far, only Fishers has confirmed its 2026 hours. The others are last year's official hours. Most towns announce in mid-to-late October, so I'll post an update once they do. Hours can also shift if the forecast turns bad.

Porch light on means treats here. Porch light off means skip this house.

Don't see your town? Tell me in the comments and I'll add it to the update.

Your weekend in Hamilton County

FRI: The Indy Fuel open their home season at Fishers Event Center against Wheeling. Puck drop is 7:15 p.m.

SAT: Boo 'n Brew at Clay Terrace in Carmel, 2–6 p.m. It's free. Kids can trick-or-treat at the shops, and there are hayrides, a pumpkin patch, a pet costume contest and a b**r garden for the grown-ups.

SAT: The Arts in Autumn at Midtown Plaza in Carmel. Check the city's events page for times.

THU–SUN: Headless Horseman at Conner Prairie in Fishers. Buy tickets ahead, because hayride times go fast.

Which one is on your list? Tell me in the comments.

What's coming to 146th & Shelborne? A new park.

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation is breaking ground on Bear Creek Park, nearly 27 acres in northwest Carmel. CCPR bought the land in 2020, adopted the master plan in 2022, and crews started site work this summer.

Phase 1, on the north side of the park, includes:
• Boardwalks with an overlook
• A play area and multi-use courts
• Restrooms and a parking lot

Everyone's invited to the groundbreaking on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. Mayor Sue Finkam will speak, and it's free. The park is closed while construction is underway, so hold off on visiting for now.

What would you want in a future phase: more trails, a splash pad, something else?

Market Minute: September in central Indiana

MIBOR's September report is out. The short version: buyers have more choices, and prices are holding steady.

• 7,405 homes for sale, up 16% from last September
• $320,000 median sale price, up 1.3%
• 27 median days on market, up from 20 a year ago
• 2.9 months of supply (2.4 last September)

The typical home still sold for about 98% of its list price, so well-priced homes are still moving. They just aren't flying off the market the way they did a year ago.

These are regional numbers for MIBOR's 17-county area, not city-level. Want me to pull the numbers for your town? Drop it in the comments.

If you've driven I-69 through Fishers, you've seen it: that huge, empty building on Kincaid Drive that used to be Fry's Electronics. 👀

Been around a while? You might remember it as Incredible Universe back in the '90s.

🏢 About 180,000 sq ft on nearly 17 acres
📅 Fry's closed in February 2021, so it's been empty more than five years
🚫 Ideas the city has passed on: trampoline parks, car dealerships, discount stores
🎯 Fishers wants the I-69 corridor to lean toward offices, life sciences, hotels, apartments and entertainment

The land is privately owned, and Mayor Scott Fadness says the city is going to "play the long game."

323. 🏗️ That's how many new single-family home permits Hamilton County issued in August, according to the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.

A year ago it was 197, so that's about 64% more, and it's the most of any county in the Indy area.

📊 August 2026 vs. August 2025:
Hamilton: 323 (from 197)
Marion: 175 (from 132)
Boone: 117 (from 85)
Johnson: 109 (from 85)
Hendricks: 88 (from 198)
Hancock: 82 (from 121)

Across all nine counties, builders pulled 953 permits, up 7%.

A permit means a builder is getting ready to start a home, so this is a good look at where new neighborhoods are taking shape right now.

Where are you seeing the most new construction? Tell me in the comments 👇 and save this so we can compare next month.

Someone can try to steal your house without ever setting foot in it. Here's a free way to get a heads-up if it happens. 🏡🔒

It's called deed fraud, or home title theft. A scammer files a fake document to make it look like they own your home, then tries to borrow or sell against it.

✅ Hamilton and Marion counties both use the free Property Fraud Alert service
📩 You sign up with your name and get an email or text any time a document is recorded under it
⚠️ Hamilton County: if you signed up under the old Doxpop system, you need to re-enroll

It won't stop fraud on its own, but it helps you catch it fast.

👉 Sign up at propertyfraudalert.com or call 800-728-3858

📌 Save this, and send it to a homeowner you love.
