One of my favorite things about springtime in Franklin are the dogwoods in bloom. The way that their creamy, white blooms stand against the dull gray, still-bare trees makes me smile and remember a special day when I first moved here. My love for the dogwood tree is long-held. My grandmother had an amazing tree in her front yard when I was a girl. My mom had always tried to grow one front and center in our yard growing up. Dogwoods are her favorite, but she had no luck with a tree of our own. We moved to Franklin in March of 2011 and after having our first snowfall later that month, April came and brought with it the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Our woods were full of dogwoods! I immediately called my mom and said, "You'll never believe what I am looking at right now!" It was no less than 30 dogwood trees in bloom and I couldn't wait to share it with her. Now every time I see them, I think about that day and how we got to share our love of dogwoods, even though we were far apart. What special springtime memories do you have or what is your favorite thing about spring?
