In the peak of this cathedral ceiling there is evidence of moisture you can see discoloration in the paint. The cause of this discoloration is moisture being transferred to the drywall and wood framing by the air temperature difference between the living room and the attic. Warm air has the ability to carry more moisture than cold air, (humidity % in summer). In the summer with the air conditioning cooling the inside take moisture out of the air the attic temperature can exceed 90 + degrees with 90% humidity.
The reason the moisture can build is called v***r diffusion that moves water v***r slowly through solid building materials like wood and concrete.
To help limit this moisture transfer it’s recommended to put insulation between the solid substrates and the unconditioned air spaces such as attic and crawlspace’s. If left unattended mold growth is a great possibility if not already present.
