Thirty years ago, I began my journey in real estate as a newly licensed REALTOR® in Marietta, Georgia.

I had no idea where this career would take me.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of buyers and sellers navigate one of the most important financial decisions of their lives.

I’ve worked through changing markets, rising and falling interest rates, booming markets, challenging markets, and everything in between.

I’ve owned brokerages, managed offices, mentored agents, and built lifelong relationships with clients who have become friends.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past 30 years, it’s this:

Real estate has never truly been about houses.

It’s about people.

A friend of mine recently shared a post that said instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” we should ask, “What can I learn from this?” and “What can I do about it?”

That struck a chord with me.

Yesterday, while my husband was in the ER and later admitted to the hospital, life didn’t stop. Real estate didn’t stop.

There were buyers wanting to see properties.
There were sellers needing updates.
There were negotiations taking place.
There were decisions that needed to be made.

While sitting in a hospital room, I was coordinating showings, communicating with buyers and sellers, negotiating offers with multiple agents, and successfully putting a property under contract.

One buyer who viewed a listing while I was unable to attend is now considering submitting an offer on Monday. I let him know that if he’d like to visit the property again, I’d be happy to personally meet him despite the circumstances that prevented me from being there the first time.

None of this is because I’m extraordinary.

It’s because responsibility doesn’t disappear when life gets hard.

The reality is that every one of us will face valleys, disappointments, health challenges, setbacks, and moments when life feels unfair.

We can’t always control what happens to us.

We can control how we respond.

For me, that means continuing to serve the people who have trusted me with one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. It means continuing to make my calls, follow up with my clients, and do the work that needs to be done.

Not because it’s easy.

Because consistency matters.

Life happens.

Emergencies happen.

Heartbreak happens.

And yes, real estate still happens.

The people who continue moving forward aren’t the people with perfect lives. They’re the people who refuse to stay stuck.

So today, whatever challenge you’re facing, keep taking the next step.

You don’t have to have everything figured out.

You just have to keep moving forward.
