Thank you Taylor Rae Baughman. This was an extra step for the kids that I am so happy you thought of.
Although the drive has officially ended, a box arrived just now for a special reason.
I need to share an update from the donation drive.
When I picked up one of our donation drop boxes, it was completely empty. Not one item.
In that moment, I was told the box had been kept in a closet during the collection period.
I don’t have a pretty way to dress that up. This drive exists to collect items for children entering foster care, children who may be leaving home with little or nothing of their own. So realizing that a donation box had been hidden away was heartbreaking.
But here’s the part I really want you to hear.
My friend and neighbor, Taylor Vannatta Baughman, found out what happened and immediately went into rescue mode.
She challenged her clients to donate from the Amazon Wish List, send her their receipt, and be entered to win a free service from her.
And just like that, donations started coming in.
That is the kind of community I believe in. The community I grew up in, and the community I came home to 💙
Taylor, thank you for not just being upset right along with me, but for doing something about it. Thank you for stepping up quickly, generously, and publicly for these kids.
To Taylor’s clients who donated, thank you. You helped fill a gap that should never have existed, and I am so grateful.
Today, I’m choosing to focus on the helpers.
