We are aware of Facebook posts and some community conversations about reports of large numbers of fish and other aquatic wildlife that appear to be in distress and/or dead in certain areas of the lake. We continue to monitor those channels and keep our eyes open when we’re out and about on the lake for anything unusual. Fish kills are common on Lake Greenwood, particularly in early spring - and often have to do with the rapid temperature changes and water condition fluctuations that cause stress to some species.
The best thing lake residents and boaters/fishermen can do is report concerns directly to Greenwood County Lake Management or to the SC Department of Natural Resources Fish Kill Hotline. 1-800-922-5431

Telephone number,
Location of the kill (county, name of waterbody, nearest landmark, GIS coordinates, etc),
Approximate time of day first observed,
