On this episode of York Street Beauty Suites:
The architect and mechanical engineers have done their thing! Which means we can move on with minimal demo until permits are pulled, and accepted. As we removed some horse hair, plaster, and old funky insulation from early 1900s… We found a hidden brick chimney! I would love to keep it exposed in two of the suites to add character.
My husband “suite daddy” 🤭♥️ prepped the walls that are to be torn down by removing doors and trim. We packed his dump trailer full of debris and off to the dump we go.
So thankful for Matt our demo guy who is more passionate about demo than anyone I’ve ever met lol. He tore the interior of the walls out like he was having fun! Always thankful for his help and teamwork.
I looked out one of the back windows daydreaming of 7 more parking spots and a concrete walking path into the building. So exciting!
We also taught our oldest how to hammer out a wall! He loved it. 😊
After permits are accepted, we are able to build new walls, tear down old walls, and build a hallway, connecting the staircase in the rear and the staircase in the front. This is fire code in the borough.
Once we get downstairs, another code we will follow is the compliance for ADA regulations. We will also be tearing out walls and building new ones along with framing a new handicap accessible restroom and new amenities for all the suite renters.
And most exciting- there will now be 10 suites in the building opposed to 7. Originally the building had seven rooms but after drawings and load bearing walls were figured- there were two extra large rooms where walls were to be put up dividing them into two medium sized rooms and we decided to enclose the covered second story porch and turn that into a beautiful suite as well.
Still a long process ahead. How many weeks to be approved for permits? 2 weeks? 6? We will see!
