Alright, community shout-out #3, Downtown Daily Bread (DDB)....

Downtown Daily Bread (DDB) in Harrisburg, PA is a multifaceted nonprofit organization that provides food, shelter, counseling, showers, mail delivery, and so much more for people in need and our community's unhoused individuals.

We heard of this organization shortly after coming to the Burg, and once we found out all they do for the community, we tried to support. The number of people this org supports and provides basic life necessities of food and shelter every day is amazing.

We love the partnerships that they have been able to form to expand awareness of the seriousness of our unhoused populations and the hungry. They advocate for more resources to be available and loudly proclaim how these basic life needs should not be shameful for anyone who needs help. They are welcoming to those in need and provide a source of comfort and dignity during a difficult time.

Below are a few ways you can support this community business that come to mind:
Monetary donations are welcome to offset expenses of the
services they provide
Purchase items from their Amazon Wishlist found on their
website
Drop off non-perishable food; sneakers; clothing
Attend an event in the future like the April 12, 2026 Paint +
Pints (loved the canvas bags given to attendees)
Volunteer to serve food
Volunteer your time and talent
Pray for the staff and the individuals helped
Encourage the staff and the individuals who are helped
Share their social media posts to spread awareness

Check out the website: downtowndailybread.org

Get in touch with them for other volunteer opportunities.

Thank you Downtown Daily Bread (DDB) or all you do for the community.

Howdy howdy, community shout-out #2 or it 1ašŸ¤”? Nope, since this is Angel Fox business #2, we'll say shout-out to community organization #2.

Fox's Wash and Go laundromat is more than just a place to wash clothes. It is a full-service, coin-operated laundromat that also provides wash-and-fold laundering and dry cleaning services. Fox's will pick up, wash, dry, fold, and deliver your clothes back to you. Now that is sweet! Fox's also provides dry cleaning services to several businesses, residential facilities, and hotels in the Harrisburg area.

I say it's more than a laundromat because I have seen and been a part of the activities that give back to the community. Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners for those in need; promoting and hosting pop-up shops for entrepreneurs; feeding the unhoused; free laundry wash days for the unhoused each month, and more... Below are a few ways you can support this community business that come to mind:
Sponsor a monthly free wash for the unhoused day (1st
Saturday of the month). Sponsorship is providing monetary
donation or donating food/drink or a porta potty for the day
Donate gift cards to purchase food/drink/laundry supplies
Be a vendor at a pop-up event
Volunteer your time and talent
Pray for Angel and the individuals she helps
Encourage Angel and the individuals who are helped
Monetary donations to offset expenses of providing free wash
services to unhoused and women who are guests at
Tears For Tarina, Tarina's House emergency housing

Remember, sponsorship can be from an individual, your work location, or your church.

Thank you Angel for all you do for the community.

Community organization #1. Angel Fox is the Founder of 3 businesses, so we'll highlight each in the coming days. Of course, we could be totally biased since have known Angel for the past 15+ years but we know she does a lot more than this space can hold.
First up is Tears For Tarina (TFT). TFT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit domestic awareness advocacy service provider organization. TFT provides case management, counseling, life skills and financial literacy, and other services to individuals who are escaping a horrible situation. Angel also opened an emergency shelter, Tarina's House, for women. You can check out the Tears4Tarina website for more information. Below are a few ways that you can help this community organization that come to mind:
Purchase tickets and attend 1 or all 3 of the events below
Become a sponsor
Be a vendor at the events
Purchase tickets and donate to someone to attend
Spread the word (word of mouth or share posts)
Adopt a room in Tarina's House
Provide rental assistance to a guest in Tarina's House
Pray for Angel and individuals she helps
Encourage Angel and individuals who are helped
Your time and talent
Monetary donations (no amount too small; all is appreciated)
Reach out to Angel and let her know how you can support her mission to be a part of eradicating domestic violence.

Angel provides a Survivors basket to each woman who becomes a guest of Tarina's House and any individual who is in need, male or female. These baskets are only $18 and provide a small amount of comfort by providing needed hygiene essentials.

Angel, thank you for everything you do for the community and thank you for all the support you have given us through the years.

You might think that helping your community takes a lot of effort. It really doesn't. Whatever effort you can give can make a big difference. There are quite a few nationwide organizations that do good work, but don't forget about those local grassroots organizations; they can really use your help. Helping can take many forms, ranging from showing up daily to just once a year.

Small gestures of volunteering and providing your: 1) Time 2) Talent 3) Monetary support (one-time or recurring donations, buying event tickets, supporting fundraising, being a sponsor, being a vendor...) 4) promoting the organization - are just a few ways you can help.

We've been lucky to come across some good ones in the Burg that I'd like to share with you....let's see if I can post at least one a day this week *crossing fingers*
