As we get older, our balance naturally changes, making wet bathroom surfaces one of the biggest hazards in the home. Adding a grab bar is one of the smartest, most effective ways to prevent serious falls and maintain independence.
But here is the most important thing to know about grab bars: they are only as safe as what they are attached to. Suction cups or standard drywall anchors are dangerous because they can easily pull out when you put your full weight on them. A true safety bar must be anchored directly into the wooden wall studs behind the wall.
Finding those studs behind thick ceramic tile and cement backer board is usually the hardest part of the job. To get it right, I use a specialized, high-tech stud finder that uses deep-scanning technology to read straight through the tile.

In the first picture, you can see where I used blue tape to mark the exact center of the studs hidden behind the wall. This takes the guesswork out of the equation. It means no cracked tiles and, most importantly, a rock-solid, secure hold that someone can actually trust with their full body weight.
If you or an aging parent are looking into adding grab bars, always make sure they are anchored directly into the framing!

Are you a rental owner who needs help? Are you looking for a professional handyman who can communicate, show up on time, and understand what repairs are necessary to help protect your property?

This unit needed drywall work and a repaint. I also sealed the kitchen sink and installed a new dishwasher. Since this owner lives in another state, she has peace of mind knowing the work will be completed on time and efficiently, with documentation provided at the end.

Another one! Custom size calls for custom problems.

Previous 1948 door was 84" high. Reframed the opening, purchased a stock door and wrapped in trim coil to mimic the rest of the doors. Safe, sealed and guaranteed.

The second photo is the previous door, well past its prime.

Spent the day crawling around under a house here in the Hickory area. These are the jobs you don't see, but they matter the most.
We tackled two big issues down here today:
1. Fire Safety:
The "Before" picture shows why you don't want that cheap flexible hose for your dryer vent. It sags, traps lint, and becomes a legit fire hazard. I tore that mess out and installed rigid metal ductwork. It’s straight with only one turn, so the air (and lint) actually gets out like it should.
2. Moisture:
The old plastic on the ground was basically shredded trash. I hauled it all out and put down a thick 12-mil v***r barrier with taped seams. I also installed a fan with a built-in humidistat to keep the air moving automatically so mold doesn't stand a chance.
It’s dirty work, but I sleep better knowing this house is safer and drier now. If you haven't looked under your house in a while (or are too scared to look), give me a shout.

Before and after of this redeck. The previous railings were soft and the boards were beyond their lifespan.
Cable railing is a sleek option that also requires little maintenance.
