🏨 Local Spotlight: Union Hotel – Everett, PA

I met a friend for lunch today at The Union Hotel in Everett, and it was my first visit—but definitely not my last.

The service was excellent. Both our waitress and one of the owners took time to chat with us and made us feel right at home. The food was outstanding, and you can tell they take pride in where it comes from. Much of the menu features farm-to-table ingredients, including beef from grass-fed cattle raised on the owners’ farm just a few miles away.

The building itself is worth seeing. Originally established in 1802, the hotel has been beautifully renovated while still maintaining its historic character. Inside you’ll find original architectural details, historic photographs, and a warm atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy your meal.

If you’re traveling through Bedford County or looking for a place to try something different, I highly recommend stopping in.

🥩 Local Spotlight: Frederick’s Meat Market – Roaring Spring 🥩

After getting recommendation after recommendation, I finally stopped by Frederick's Meat Market in Roaring Spring to see what all the buzz was about.

The first thing I noticed was the selection. They have a huge variety of fresh meats, frozen meats, burgers, brats, sausages, and just about anything you’d want for the grill, smoker, or freezer. There were far more options than I expected.

The staff was friendly, the store was clean, and the prices seemed very reasonable. I especially liked browsing the frozen meat section and checking out all the different sausage varieties.

One thing that caught my eye was the old butcher block on display. It’s a cool piece of history and a reminder that businesses like this are becoming harder to find.

If you haven’t been there yet, it’s worth checking out.

The gap between what new homebuyers and existing homeowners pay for housing has never been wider. New buyers spend nearly 7 percentage points more of their income on housing than existing owners, the largest disparity in 40 years, according to a new Economic Innovation Group study. Even at the peak of the 2007 housing bubble, the gap was just 4 points.
