The US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas & Galveston County are monitoring a severe weather threat due to possible isolated strong to severe storms moving through our area later today.

Hail & damaging winds pose the greatest threat, with parts of northwest Galveston County potentially receiving significant hail. (>2").

STARTING TONIGHT: Due to the recent rains, we are seeing an increase in mosquitoes in the city. Public Works will begin spraying for mosquitos tonight from 7p.m. to 11 p.m. and again on Thursday and will continue this schedule until further notice.

Public Works will spray for culex and tiger mosquitos (normal mosquitos) during this time. The sprayer will disengage if a walker or bicyclist approaches, but the machine will remain on. Once the roadway is clear, the sprayer will re-engage and continue to spray along city streets.

Here are some tips to protect your family and property from mosquitos: 1. Use EPA insect repellents - when used as directed, EPA-registered insect repellents are proven safe and effective.

LATEST NEWS: DPS Urges Texans to Report Suspicious Activity After Recent Attacks Against Israel

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is responding to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s directive this week to work with local partners and federal intelligence agencies on heightened public safety measures in light of the recent attacks against Israel.

At this time, DPS is not aware of any specific and credible threats to Texas. However, the department does have concerns the current conflict could inspire homegrown violent extremists and foreign terrorist organizations operating in the United States to target the Jewish community and institutions associated with Israel outside of the Middle East.

The department encourages Texans to remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activity via iWatchTexas. Tips can be reported via iwatchtx.org, the free iOS or Android mobile app or by calling 844-643-2251. All reports are confidential.
