Did you know:

Federal approval allows SNAP recipients to purchase hot foods with their Lone Star Cards at participating retailers within the approved counties through August 14. Hot foods include rotisserie chicken, grocery store deli items, and other food that is hot at the point of sale.
The approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services applies to SNAP recipients in Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Lavaca, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, Tyler, Victoria, Walker, Waller, and Wharton counties.
No action is required by SNAP recipients to receive this additional benefit. SNAP recipients in counties impacted by Hurricane Beryl can also request SNAP replacement benefits.

Commissioner Garcia and Precinct 2 will be hosting a housing discussion event happening this Saturday, May 4th at Leonel Castillo from 9am - 2pm will be the inaugural and kick-off event to our brand new housing discussion series, 2Casa!

With insightful conversations, thought-provoking speakers, and a chance to dive deeper into the pressing housing issues affecting Precinct 2, this event will be the first of a series of events happening throughout Harris County Precinct 2 throughout 2024. This event will cover a more general approach while the following events will be deeper dives into specific topics that are close to home to the diverse communities throughout the district, including:

Affordable housing
Homelessness
Gentrification
Evictions
Veterans
Re-entry
Homeownership

This event will be catered with a light breakfast to fuel your brainpower and coffee to keep the ideas brewing, followed by a light lunch to keep you energized through the afternoon. In addition, there will also be a small resource fair onsite showcasing housing-related programs and resources.
