📢Homeowners Alert!📢
If you receive a letter from the County Appraisal District, don’t ignore it! A new law requires Texas homeowners to reverify their homestead exemption every five years, and failing to respond could mean higher property taxes.
Here’s What You Need to Know:
✅ Homestead exemptions help lower your property taxes by reducing your taxable home value on their PRIMARY residence by up to $100,000 (applicable to School Taxes).
📅 New Rule: Counties must now check eligibility at least once every five years.
📬 Reverification notices are sent to select homeowners in late December or early January, with a 30-day deadline to respond.
🚨 If you don’t reapply, your exemption may be removed before April 15, and you’ll pay taxes on the full market value of your home!
How to Check Your Homestead Exemption Status:
🔍 Visit your county’s appraisal district website for a quick property search.

Lost Your Exemption? Here’s What to Do:
If your exemption was removed, you’ll need to reverify your primary residence. Your driver’s license or state ID must match your home address to qualify.
Bottom Line:
📢 Don’t ignore letters from the appraisal district!
⏳ Respond on time to keep your exemption and avoid higher taxes.
