When we are marketing our services, once in a while we get a message that goes something like this: "Do us a favor and troll ur own neighborhood...keep the riffraff out of ours...!!!..." Seriously. This was a real message someone sent us.
This type of person must be angry about something in life. Maybe some unethical person took advantage of him or her, or someone they know. Perhaps they feel that every business is out there trying to take advantage of them and rip them off.
It's hard to persuade someone like that that you run a respectable real estate business that serves a need in the marketplace. So I just wish them well. You can't take stuff like that personally else it will just ruin your day.
I can tell you that people like that have no idea what real estate investors do. So, to those people, I just propose a few questions.
1. Would you rather live in a house with nice houses around you? Or would you be okay with having a vacant house on either side you, falling apart, in disrepair, grass and weeds over a foot tall, bringing property values down for you and your neighbors? Probably not the latter.
2. Many people don't have funds to keep up with all the maintenance on a house. Many sellers don't have funds to repair their home and bring up to a condition that would allow them to get top dollar. Are you willing to step in and give them the money to fix up the house and help them out? I doubt it.
3, Some people are facing foreclosure due to some life event, and stand to lose all the equity in their house if they don't sell it ASAP. Are you able to buy a house in a matter of a few days and help these people? Do you think a realtor is going to be able to get a house sold, and closed within a week? I doubt it.
4. Some people need to move out of town. They couldn't get their house sold, and now they are going to have double house payments that they can't afford. Would you like to step in and pay their mortgage for them? I doubt it.
So to the people that are critical of real estate investors, I say unless you are going to step up and help people get out of their real estate problems, put your own money on the table do it, then perhaps you shouldn't criticize reputable business people that can. 😊
