Last Friday we celebrated the official Groundbreaking of OST Lofts with community leaders Councilmember Robert Gallegos of District I, TDHCA Governing Board Chairman Leo Vazquez, President and CEO of the Tejano Center Dr. Adriana Tamez, and OST Lofts Developer Donna Rickenbacker of MREC.

The site is located within the Gulfgate/Pine Valley community along Old Spanish Trail just southeast of the University of Houston Central Campus and its new medical school and less than a mile from the MacGregor Metro light rail station and MacGregor Park.

The mixed-income community will have 130 units and future residents will have close access to The University of Houston College of Medicine, TMC, Metro light-rail station, MacGregor Park, and Downtown Houston. The development will have a unique freestanding quality early childhood Pre-K program available at no charge to the residents of OST Lofts and will be operated by The Tejano Center.

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: Guefen Development came to Michael Easely seeking a site for their next student housing project for the University of Houston. Although a complex process, Mike assembled a 1.3+ acre site that was originally occupied by a church, an apartment complex, and 6 single-family homes.

"The assemblage of these parcels ultimately yielded over 1.3 acres which greenlit the Haven at Elgin Development located 100 feet North of the UH Campus, allowing the university to add a luxury student living option." --Mike Easely

The community will be a High-Rise product with 12 residential stories and 4-story podium parking. The project’s amenities are set to include state-of-the-art study rooms, a well-equipped fitness center, a yoga & spin room, a dog park, an elegant outdoor kitchen space, and a resort-style pool.

Last week we celebrated the grand opening of Regency Lofts with community leaders Mayor Sylvester Turner, Cheryl Lawson of WALIPP, and the Honorable Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz. This development contains 120 affordably priced family units and a stand-alone pre-K early learning center, which will be available at no cost to residents.

This year, Waterman Steele has launched a school courtyard beautification project for Yes Prep Hobby. The 1st phase of the project is complete with a custom Aviator Mural by award-winning muralist Dan Terry!

Our Managing Partner, Tami Pearson, has championed this effort in hopes that the courtyard would enhance student interaction and outdoor teaching activities. So far, the students are feeling proud of their school even more! Stay tuned for more courtyard updates soon!

Today the Houston Housing Authority and its partners hosted a Groundbreaking for 2100 Memorial, a new affordable senior living community in the Memorial Drive corridor. The five-story community will offer 196 affordable units exclusively for senior residents.
