Today, 350 N. Meridian Street is home to private residences, but for decades it was the Indianapolis Athletic Club, an exclusive gathering place for some of the city’s most prominent business leaders, politicians and athletes.

The building opened in the 1920s and remained a fixture of downtown Indianapolis until the club closed in 2004. Today, much of the historic structure has been preserved and adapted into condominiums, allowing a building that witnessed generations of Indianapolis history to begin an entirely new chapter.

But for many longtime Indianapolis residents, this building will always be connected to one devastating night in February 1992 and the firefighters who answered the call.

Every building has a story. Some are just harder to see from the sidewalk.
