As you may already know, one of the first steps you should take is pre-qualifying for a home. But what do lenders look for when deciding to pre-qualify you for a home? Read on to find out!

Investopedia made a great analogy. They said, “think of a mortgage pre-approval as a physical exam for your finances. Lenders will poke and prod into all corners of your financial life as a way of trying to ensure that you’ll repay your mortgage.”

With that being said, here are the most common areas they’ll look at:

✅ Your credit score
✅ Your credit history
✅ Your current employment and employment history
✅ Any assets and liabilities you have
✅ Current income
✅ Debt-to-income ratio
