On Saturday, August 15, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Bloom Homes Assisted Living and Memory Care. The 9,390-square-foot facility will include 16 residential units, living and dining areas, a commercial kitchen, and additional staff and support spaces. The Kelly Factory, in collaboration with architectural designer and project manager Corey Hays, provided architectural services for the project and will provide construction administration and owner representation throughout construction. We’re excited to see this project come to life!

Today's Makeover Monday highlights one of Jackson's vacant architectural gems hiding in plain sight. This five-story office building is known as the CrossRoads Building. A great adaptive reuse opportunity would be to convert it into a housing cooperative development.

Unlike a traditional apartment lease structure, a housing cooperative, or housing co-op, gives residents an ownership stake in the corporation that owns the property, along with the potential to build equity as the property's value increases.

What if the vacant 129,000-square-foot former cold storage and dry-goods distribution center near Hawkins Field Airport could be transformed into one of the region's largest indoor food production destinations?

This week's Makeover Monday reimagines the former distribution facility as an indoor aquaponic vertical produce farm and catfish farm, creating a new model for local food production, workforce development, agritourism, and community gathering. Aquaponics is the process of growing food in a liquid medium using the nutrient-rich water produced by fish, and this building's large floor area, industrial infrastructure, and 8-acre site make it a natural fit for a year-round agricultural campus capable of producing fresh vegetables and catfish close to the people and businesses that need them most.

Just in time for back to school, today's Makeover Monday tackles a much-needed issue in the City of Jackson: giving our teens something to do. This vacant neighborhood community center can be repurposed into a Teen Center serving various functions, including an arcade, a teen-run cafe, a mini library with a computer lab, and a multi-purpose flex space to accommodate teen-led activities and events.

After more than 50 years, Piccadilly, located inside the Jackson Medical Mall, closed last week. For some, Piccadilly is nostalgic; for others, including The Kellys, we frequent the Medical Mall weekly, so the loss is deeply felt, especially for a community already experiencing a shortage of dine-in restaurant options.

The Kelly Factory proposes converting this available restaurant space into a food hall-style dining facility. A food hall would provide a variety of food vendors as well as commercial restaurant space for restaurateurs looking for a location inside an established venue with built-in foot traffic.
