The countertops, flooring, lighting and paint colors might be what you fall in love with first, but the things you can’t see are what determine how well your home will serve you for years to come.

Quality construction. Thoughtful layouts. Proper insulation. Solid electrical and plumbing. The right materials. Attention to the details that eventually get covered up by drywall and pretty finishes.

When you’re buying or building a home, don’t get so distracted by what photographs well that you forget to ask about what’s underneath it all.
